In Europe, China and the USA, beekeepers are being regularly confronted with severe inexplicable and sudden colony losses. The international scientist network Coloss has set up projects to identify and investigate the underlying factors. This must enable the development and dissemination of emergency measures and sustainable management strategies to prevent large scale losses.
It is of primary interest to determine where and on what scale colony losses develop. For this reason Coloss has taken the initiative to collect reliable and internationally standardized data on honeybee colony losses,which can be compared between countries and years. Different ways of datacollection will be employed to ensure a representative outcome.
